A closer look

Pinched nerves.

A pinched nerve happens when surrounding tissue presses on a nerve, often through repetitive strain or poor posture. Typical symptoms are sharp or shooting pain, tingling and numbness.

Mild cases may ease with rest and gentle stretching. Left alone, though, nerve pressure can become chronic discomfort and limited movement, so it’s worth getting a proper diagnosis early.

Good posture, fewer repetitive movements, ergonomic equipment, staying active and a healthy weight all lower your risk.
